a new brother

this is the family behind metro cloth diapering. we have loved using their service and it has been such a wonderful experience to help document the addition of merrick to their family. they came to the farm for the  maternity pictures so we decided to try loose park for some newborn pictures. it was a beautiful evening and the water and greenness of the rose garden was a nice change from the crispy brown everywhere else.  it was exciting to see them all together again enjoying their new little brother.

jacob at home

this little man is a real life miracle.

i read a book almost two years ago on a plane headed for atlanta. i was going to photograph my cousins with their newly adopted son. their road had been very hard. met with a lot of resistance.
there were so many themes in the book that have changed the way i view a life.

the idea of a story. living a life as if it were a story being told. and the idea that a good story is not an easy story. the more hardship, the bigger the struggle, the sacrifice-all these things make the story unforgettable and more meaningful.

this family already has a very full story and i was fortunate to be able to capture a few moments of them all together. at home :)

happy birthday squeaks

as i was driving back home after getting to spend 48 hours with one of my favorite families-i kept thinking about how distance can change the perception of daily life. it started out as a reflection on my own situation and it spilled over into bigger picture of why i love taking real day images. a picture taken of 2 girls playing on the floor in the early morning, reading a story together, a hug after a fall-these are what make up our everyday-and it isn't until it is gone that we look back and treasure that image. a little piece of what used to be ordinary is rendered irreplaceable. it is hard to see the importance of these small pieces when you are too close to them. a step back is needed to appreciate their beauty- because at least for me it makes these everyday things glow.

and then there are those big moments. a 1st birthday. a day that celebrates all the days. i was fortunate enough to book end adrienne's first year. see images of her first few days here and here

congratulations matt and malia on having such beautiful girls and for knowing how to celebrate family!
