the long awaited molly

this family was thrilled to welcome a little girl on saturday-
watching her big brothers meet her for the first time was incredible-will just couldn't get enough of her, he wanted to feed her, check on her fingers and toes and was very curious about what was happening with her belly button. wyatt was quietly amazed and very concerned about his mommy. it was a moment to be remembered for always-and i was so honored to be there. one of my favorite moments was the boys singing to their new little sister-made me cry a little :)

what a happy family!

a few of the favorite lines that weren't caught on video-
wyatt-"what is that bag that is hitched up to you"    mike "you've been in the country way to long.."
will "i will give her a peanut" deanna "she can't have a peanut sweetie, she's too little" will "here is a small peanut" deanna "she can only have milk" will "where is the milk? is it chocolate milk?"

meet miss sarah jane

this photo shoot was planned long ago in september when sarah's mom contacted me about doing a series of sessions to capture maternity, hospital and newborn stages. it was just the impetus i needed to start the babyday package. i have really enjoyed getting to know this couple. they are funny and loving, genuine and they really have it together.
one of my favorite moments was when i got little sarah all unwrapped and they got to admire her hands and feet for the first time. as her dad held her he whispered to her that he could just hold her like this for the next 30-40 more years. i am always thankful to families for trusting me to be there during these first moments-

introducing...a real day

this idea had several components
1st-i saw a piece on the wirken photography blog about a photo session that involves going to the family's home, spending several hours with them capturing everyday moments. i think the photographers at wirken are outstanding-and i love looking to them for inspiration...
2nd-i drove to tulsa and back in one day when my friend thuy had her baby. on that drive i decided that the idea of documenting 'a real day' captures what i like best about families and photography- honesty, emotion and beauty. somehow i wanted to incorporate it as an option for babydayphotography
3rd-i decided that this type of session would be a great way to highlight the families at IDC-to show how strong, devoted and hardworking they are in those moments not witnessed by anyone else
4th-i contacted the bertolino family-i have always loved this family since mira was in my baby class 5 years ago. they have all those outstanding qualities that i wanted to try to capture-plus i thought they would say yes...since they are creative and adventurous and appreciate photography

fog+snow+a beautiful family

Usually I prefer sunlight, golden sunlight that lights people's faces and makes everything glow, but you don't always get that on a day of a photo shoot. Sunday we had snow and fog, thick fog, mysterious fog, lots of snow but a temperature around 40. It was not a typical day-and I think it was for the best. We were given a special day to highlight a milestone in this family's life. Happy 6 month mark baby luke! You were always meant to be part of this family and it is so wonderful to watch you grow :)

luke got a little cold-so we came inside and created a make-shift studio in the playroom
 he's irrestistable!
